Dr. Sonya Raghavan, Cardiologist, Sutter Health Heart & Vascular Institute
Who do you Go Red For ?
I go red for my fellow women cardiologists in my group and my mother who survived COVID-19 pneumonia.
How do you prioritize self-care?
I take time off for myself and often relax with a deep massage. I take walks with my family and most importantly I practice sleep hygiene. I make it point to drink plenty of water. I ask for help and accept it when it’s offered. Importantly, I try my best to maintain friendships outside of work with a good support group that keeps me grounded and lets me focus.
What do you want women to know about heart disease and stroke?
I want women to understand that heart disease is not a man’s disease alone it affects more women than advertised. In fact, more women from die from heart disease then men because it’s under diagnosed and often overlooked. I want women to think of themselves as their own best friend and advocate and seek early cardiovascular care for primary prevention. It’s important to get regular exercise and keep a balanced diet for overall healthy heart care.
