- This statement introduces the concept of cardio-oncology rehabilitation, which is important for the more than 16.7 million cancer survivors in the US – all at increased risk of morbidity and mortality from non-cancer causes, predominately cardiovascular disease (CVD).
- Cancer survivors and patients with early-stage cancer are more susceptible to CVD because of the effects of both their cancer and cancer treatments.
- This statement presents a targeted approach to identifying patients with cancer who are likely to get the greatest benefit from cardiac rehabilitation.
